TRAINING AND EDUCATION

hybrid transatlantic youth summer academy

Hybrid Transatlantic Youth Summer Academy on Climate Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change – ATLANTIS 2022 (July 11 - September)

ATLANTIS 2022 connects youth from the Atlanta area in the United States with youth in the Ruhr Valley in Germany through an immersive training program. Participants learn about climate change, biodiversity loss and health and learn how to address these two challenges, both at the local level and in a transatlantic context.

ATLANTIS is a one week hybrid summer academy for young people on climate protection and adaptation. Students gain knowledge about climate protection and adaptation to climate change and learn to apply this knowledge immediately in their own projects. A hybrid approach was chosen to minimize the need for travel.

Youth Environmental Health ambassadors

Youth are the future. We should give them the tools to prepare for it and seek their input and recommendations. To that end, CHARRS has created the Youth Environmental Health Ambassador Program (YEHA).  YEHA will give students opportunities to learn about science and math, while serving the community and increasing their social and academic mobility.

Community Outreach and Engagement Activities

  • Help plan, set up, execute, and reflect on community meetings

  • Participate in YEHA trainings to include:

Indoor/Outdoor Air Quality, Environmental Justice and Social Determinants of Health, Climate Change

Emergency Preparedness, GIS, and Modified Ethics

YEHA participants will have an opportunity to take what they have learned from training and choose how they will share the information - peer to peers, with seniors/elders, or with middle/elementary school students.  Approved ideas will be funded by CHARRS. Students will receive volunteer hours for this work and swag for example, Catapoxi bags, Kleen Kanteens, or other practical and useful green items.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

JESSA

We at 2B Technologies first worked with CHARRS to beta test our handheld air pollution monitors for kids.  Gwen with CHARRS was one of our most diligent and thoughtful partners and worked tirelessly with us to make sure the technology was useful and relatable.  Going on ten years now Gwen has continued to be an essential partner, bridging the gap between air monitoring technology and the communities that use it to make change
